Implement Traffic Calming Measures in the Rose Valley Area for Child Safety

Implement Traffic Calming Measures in the Rose Valley Area for Child Safety
The Issue
As a resident of West Kelowna, BC, this issue deeply affects me, my family and our community. Our children, the future of our community, frequently travel to and from Rose Valley School, playing and learning in the nearby vicinity. These same children are at daily risk, with the high-speed traffic that currently storms through our neighbourhood.
Our community of Rose Valley is a serene and peaceful place. But this tranquility is often shattered by the roar of vehicles breaking speed regulations. Their peace needs to be preserved, and more importantly, their safety enhanced. In Canada, more than 22,000 pedestrians are injured annually by motor vehicles – an alarming fact that we should all keep in mind [Statistics Canada].
What we're advocating for isn't radical reform, but necessary protective measures. We wish to implement West Kelowna's Traffic Calming Policy throughout Rose Valley. Specifically, we are focused on areas frequently used by families and children such as, but not limited to, Westlake Road and surrounding roads.
Measures including clearly marked pedestrian crossings, speed bumps, and lower speed limits can usher positive change into our community - A change towards safety and tranquility. In addition, ongoing monitoring and reporting will ensure the neighbourhood stays safe for children and families.
To submit a request to City staff, we require signatures from 50% of the households of the affected areas. This area includes homes located on: West Lake Road, West Kelowna Road, Keloka Way, Keloka Drive, Lloyd Jones Road, Blackwood Drive, Klein Road, Parkinson Road, Guest Road, Horizon Drive, Peak Point Drive, Griffiths Place, Valois Court, McPhail Court, Olympus Way, Peak Point Drive, Marathon Court, Sunview Drive, Moonbeam Close, Aurora Heights, Pinewood Place, Covington Crescent, Shaleridge Place, Westview Way, Spyglass Way, Diamond View Drive, and Scott Crescent.
By signing this petition, you're not just supporting a mere notion or idea. You're a part of a larger drive towards community safety, child safety, and a peaceful environment to live in. Stand with us as we make an appeal to the City of West Kelowna to introduce urgent Traffic Calming Measures in the Rose Valley Area. Sign today to protect children tomorrow!
