Implement the option of Dual Language Learning at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School

The Issue

I am an aspiring Oxbridge candidate who believes that opportunities are not meeting ambitions at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School. Our current education system at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar only allows us to study one language, a limitation that suppresses our potential and shrinks our horizons. For those of us dreaming of attending prestigious universities like Oxford, being proficient in two languages can significantly increase our competitiveness.

In an increasingly globalising world, multiple language proficiency is not just a keyword on a resume, but a vital tool for communication, understanding, and connection. Oxford University and institutions alike value students with diverse language skills because they not only demonstrate academic aptitude but also cultural awareness and adaptability.

However, without the choice to learn two languages at our school, we are denied fair competition. It hinders us from showcasing our full capabilities and passion for learning.

Studies show that students who learn a second language display enhanced cognitive skills, including problem-solving and creativity. Moreover, it not only broadens students' global exposure but also fosters their life-long love for learning (ACTFL, 2020).

In light of these facts, we urge Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School to change their existing language curriculum and implement dual language learning. This is a necessary step for our school if it truly aims to nurture future leaders and scholars, and it starts with giving students the education opportunities they need and deserve.

Stand with me. Let us demand the promise of adequate education. Sign this petition, and together let's make dual language learning a reality at Bacup and Rawtenstall Grammar School once more.
