I am a proud Hawaiian, living in a land that has been under illegal occupation for over 130 years - This is a truth that many Hawaiians hold dear to their hearts. Yet, we are often overlooked and marginalized - even in something as simple as digital representation.

Today's world is increasingly digital and emojis have become an integral part of our online communication. They represent cultures, emotions, ideas and more. However, there's one glaring omission - the Hawaiian flag emoji.

The absence of this symbol from our keyboards sends a message that our culture isn't important enough to be represented on these platforms. It's time for this to change.

According to Emojipedia (2020), there are currently 3,521 emojis in the Unicode Standard list which includes flags from numerous countries around the world but not Hawaii’s flag despite its unique historical significance.

By adding the Hawaiian flag emoji across all platforms we can ensure that Hawaiians are given equal representation in today’s digital age while also raising awareness about Hawaii’s distinct cultural identity separate from mainland USA.
