Implement the Federal Prison Oversight and Lockdown Accountability Act

Implement the Federal Prison Oversight and Lockdown Accountability Act
The Issue
Imagine your loved one locked alone in a small cell for weeks without phone calls, showers, recreation, or even basic hygiene supplies. Imagine receiving no clear answers, no accountability, and no relief. For over 275 families with loved ones at Federal Correctional Institution Thomson (FCI Thomson), this nightmare is a reality.
Since January 2024, FCI Thomson has imposed six extended lockdowns, each lasting 8 to 31 days, without clear justification or warning. These lockdowns have created severe distress, isolation, and suffering, significantly impacting the physical and mental health of those incarcerated. Inmates are denied basic human rights and subjected to inhumane conditions, leaving families helpless and desperate for answers.
The FCI Thomson Loved Ones Coalition, founded by Christine Amador, is a grassroots group representing these families. For nearly a year, we have tirelessly sought accountability and transparency from the Bureau of Prisons (BOP), only to face dismissive responses, deflection, and silence.
Now we are taking action.
We are urging Congress to sponsor and swiftly pass the Federal Prison Oversight and Lockdown Accountability Act (FPOLA Act). This critical legislation will:
• Immediately end unjustified and abusive lockdown practices in federal prisons.
• Establish mandatory transparency and reporting guidelines for the Bureau of Prisons.
• Create independent oversight to protect inmates and their families from systemic abuse.
• Guarantee humane conditions, including access to essential healthcare, nutrition, hygiene, and communication during lockdowns.
The FPOLA Act isn’t just about ending lockdowns—it’s about restoring dignity, transparency, and accountability to a system that’s failing our loved ones. It’s about protecting human rights and ensuring the Bureau of Prisons can no longer hide behind walls of silence and secrecy.
Why We Need Your Support:
• To pressure lawmakers into immediate action and pass meaningful reform.
• To stop the abuses at FCI Thomson and other federal prisons nationwide.
• To give a voice to those suffering silently behind prison walls.
We can’t do this without you. Sign this petition to demand immediate congressional action. Share it widely and stand with us in fighting for justice, dignity, and accountability for our incarcerated loved ones.
Together, we can end this abuse.
