Implement Stronger Laws and Penalties against Rape Offenders in India

The Issue

  1. I am a young woman living in India, fearful for my life every day due to the ongoing rise in rape cases in our country. I am forced to question the safety of my environment, even as I attend college daily. I see the dominance of patriarchy in my society, which elicits dread not just for me, but for all girls in India.
  2. Our government continues to remain silent on this issue, and we demand swift, decisive action. We can no longer turn a blind eye to the increasing numbers of these heinous crimes simply because of an offender's religion, wealth, or societal position. Let us be clear: a rapist is a rapist, and a crime is a crime.
  3. India notoriously holds the unfortunate title of having the world's highest number of reported rape cases. According to the 2020 National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, a staggering 32,033 cases of rape were reported, averaging 87 rape cases daily, which are only those cases that were brave enough to be reported.
  4. This petition demands two fundamental reforms. First, we call for the death penalty for rape offenders to serve as an ultimate deterrent. Second, we urge for increased community involvement in the fight against this crime.
  5.  Community involvement ensures that the dominant patriarchal mindset prevalent in our society can be effectively challenged and countered. In this way, we can foster a safe and healthy environment that respects and protects every woman.
  6. come together to address the urgent issue of sexual violence affecting individuals of all ages and backgrounds. It is with a heavy heart that we must highlight the alarming reality: no one is safe. Sexual violence knows no age limit. It affects innocent children and elderly women. This is unacceptable. From young girls to elderly women, everyone is at risk, and the frequency of these heinous acts seems to be increasing. It is time to unite and demand change. We must create a society where every individual can live free from fear.
  7. We wish to address the critical issue of how rapists are often treated differently based on their religion, power, or connections. A rapist is a criminal-plain and simple

Our demands:-

 • Equal Justice for All: A crime is a crime, regardless of who commits it. All criminals should face the same consequences.

  • No Protection Based on Identity: No one should be shielded due to their religion -be it Hindu, Muslim, Christian, or any other. Justice must be blind to personal affiliations.D
  • Demand for Accountability: We must ensure that all offenders are held accountable for their actions, without bias or favoritism.
  • Air Legal Proceedings: Establishment of a legal system that treats every crime the same, regardless of the perpetrator's background.

Zero Tolerance for Criminal Behavior: Stricter laws applied uniformly to all individuals, ensuring that justice is served equally.

What is the fault of girls? Is it our mistake that we go out to work? Are we trying to compete with boys? What is our fault? Is it wrong to wear certain clothes? Is it a mistake to have a profession? Is it a mistake to make friends? Is it a mistake to trust? Or is it simply that we are girls? We hear the slogans "Save the girl, educate the girl," but today’s cry is "Save the girl and educate the boy."

Why are boys not restricted from childhood? Why is it always girls who face limitations? You know that there are  lot of cases that never come to light until it's too late or can say until that poor girl loses her life.

What if - Some boys  taunt her about her clothes. Why does no one raise their voice against this, and why isn't there a law addressing it? If there is a law, there is no implementation. The biggest issue is with families; they do not teach their daughters to speak up.If a girl speaks up, she is silenced. If a girl raises her voice, all her relatives will come and make jokes, so how can any girl speak up? How can she tell her parents that a boy is harassing her when they might just silence her instead? Our families are not supportive.

11.

Wow, and if someone raises their voice against wrong doing, even they are subjected to violence. The news is that many more rape cases have been made in just one week, but there has been no response from the government.  people sharing so many stories but what is the benefit? When our government does not respond, where are our laws? Where are our ministers? This isn’t just about one case in Kolkata; it’s a fight for all of us girls. We need the government to respond and take strong action.

12.We urge the Indian government to act swiftly and decisively. The safety of our girls and women is paramount, and any delay in justice is a denial of the same. Now is the time to end the fear, end the silence, and end rape in India. Sign this petition – stand for justice, stand for safety, and let's create a better India.
