Implement Stricter Safety Measures in Schools to End School Shootings

Implement Stricter Safety Measures in Schools to End School Shootings
The Issue
Our community is tired of witnessing the brutal murder of innocent children, teachers, and other school staff, year after year. The repeated promise of "never again" echoes hollow as shootings continue to plague our institutions of learning. This issue is deeply personal, fueled by the growing frustration of standing by while little is done to prevent these horrific incidents.
According to a report by Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund, there were at least 288 school shootings in America from 2009 to 2018, which is over 57 times more than the combined number of school shootings in Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and the UK during the same period.
Moreover, a survey by the National Center for Education Statistics reveals that during the 2015-2016 school year, only 43% of public schools reported at least one incident of violence, translating to approximately 1.4 million crimes. This stark reality underscores the urgent need for stricter safety measures in our schools.
It's time for us to move past simply talking about 'never again.' Let's turn these words into action. We must urge lawmakers, school board members, and other decision-makers to implement transparent and effective safety policies in all educational institutions – ones that go beyond just plans and drills.
We demand a comprehensive approach to ensure that our schools are indeed a safe haven for learning and growth, free from the looming threat of violence. Please sign this petition to foster a brighter, safer future for our children.
