It will require time and effort, but collectively, we can drive change and advocate for reform. We cannot afford to wait for another incident of systemic failure, another disturbing video, or another scandal involving misconduct by law enforcement, city officials, or judicial employees. Reform is imperative. This initiative is not intended to disparage the system but rather to promote a more effective and equitable one. Police officers, in particular, require enhanced training, similar to that of healthcare professionals. They should be subject to licensure requirements that are transferable between departments, preventing the exploitation of loopholes that facilitate misconduct, abuse, and falsification of documents and testimony. Prevention is paramount.
