I am a resident of Walnut Creek, CA, and I have personally witnessed the devastating impact of gun violence on our society and schools. The trauma it inflicts on communities is immeasurable and its effects ripple outwards, affecting not only the immediate victims but also their families, friends, and even those who hear about these incidents.

In 2019 alone, there were 39,707 deaths from firearms in the United States. This includes homicides, suicides and unintentional deaths (source: Centers for Disease Control). This statistic is alarming. It's clear that we need to take action now to prevent further loss of life.

Gun control measures are not about infringing upon rights but about ensuring public safety. They can include background checks for all gun sales to prevent firearms from falling into wrong hands; banning assault weapons which are often used in mass shootings; implementing red flag laws that allow temporary removal of guns from individuals deemed a risk to themselves or others.

Walnut Creek is not immune to this national crisis. We must act now before it's too late. Let us stand together as a community committed to peace and safety by supporting stricter gun control measures.
