Implement Stricter Animal Cruelty Laws in Arizona

Implement Stricter Animal Cruelty Laws in Arizona

The Issue

As an animal lover and a concerned citizen of Arizona, I am deeply disturbed by the recent case in Chandler where over 60 dogs were subjected to unimaginable cruelty. They were kept in cages and not allowed out of them. They had no access to food or water. Some of the dogs body scores were 2 out of 9! They were all special needs dogs and some required wheels in order to move. She took those away from them. She kept them outside in 115 degree heat with no water. The house was condemned that is how bad the living conditions were. The woman responsible for this heinous act has not faced any significant consequences due to the lack of stringent laws against animal abuse. She has been doing this since 2018 and uses 16 different aliases to obtain these dogs and continue to abuse them.

In our state, animals are often seen as property rather than sentient beings capable of feeling pain and suffering. This perspective is reflected in our laws which do not provide adequate protection for animals. According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund's 2020 report, Arizona ranks 31st in the nation for its animal protection laws. Chandler Arizona does not have any hoarding of animals and how many animals a person can have. This has to change!

We need stronger legislation that recognizes animals as beings deserving of respect and compassion. We must increase penalties for those who harm them and ensure that law enforcement agencies have the resources they need to investigate these crimes thoroughly.

This is not just about punishing those who harm animals; it's about creating a society where such acts are unthinkable. By strengthening our laws against animal cruelty, we can send a clear message that such behavior will not be tolerated in Arizona.

Please join me in urging our lawmakers to implement stricter animal cruelty laws. Your signature can make a difference - let's stand up for those who cannot speak for themselves! We are their voices and we all need to stand together and make sure stronger laws are put into place!
