Our story begins in Springburn, Glasgow, a place that I, like many others, call home. Living here for the past 48 years, I've experienced firsthand the reckless disregard road users display for speed limits on our residential streets. This problem persists, scaring parents and grandparents alike for the safety of their young ones. Given that many children, including my own grandchildren, live in Springburn, the danger imposes a personal threat.

This sentiment is echoed by the World Health Organization, emphasizing that speed contributes to about a third of deaths on the road in high-income countries. With this understanding, we can no longer remain idle while our children's safety is jeopardized. We need local authorities to put effective traffic calming measures in place, including speed limit restrictions, speed bumps, or even '20 is plenty' zones.

Our plea is for Glasgow City Council to step in and take immediate action. We are all integral to the safety of our community, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that our streets are safe for every resident of Springburn. It's time to take a stand against speeding in our neighbourhood. Protect our children, our grandchildren, and future generations from harm.
