I am a concerned citizen of Dearborn Heights, MI, USA. In recent times, our peaceful neighborhood has seen a rise in instances of people blatantly disregarding stop signs and surpassing speed limits. This recklessness endangers not only the lives of our community members but also poses a threat to our properties.

Speed humps, with their proven effectiveness in slowing down vehicles, could immensely enhance safety in our locality. According to the Institute of Transportation Engineers, traffic calming measures like speed humps can reduce vehicle speeds by an average of 22-24%. Furthermore, neighborhoods with speed humps witness significantly fewer accidents than those without, as per the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Installing speed bumps on our neighborhood streets would deter speedsters, encourage responsible driving, and ultimately make our streets safer for everyone, particularly children and senior citizens who are most at risk. Thus, it is imperative that these safety measures be implemented soon. We urge the Dearborn Heights City Council to take our plea into consideration for the safety and wellbeing of our community.
