My 10-year-old daughter had a frightening experience while crossing the road at the pedestrian crossing in Oyster Bay during school pickup time. The traffic on one side of the road was at a standstill as cars attempted to exit the area, while the other side was empty. As she cautiously approached the midpoint of the intersection and looked for oncoming vehicles, a car suddenly sped down the road, failing to slow down or stop. Fortunately, due to her own vigilance, she avoided what could have been a tragic accident. This incident underscores the urgent need for improved road safety measures at this location.

Even though the pedestrian crossing is clearly marked, cars often sped down the hill ignoring the signs and crossing. Without speed bumps or additional precautions, drivers may continue to speed down the road, oblivious to the potential dangers they pose. 

By implementing speed bumps and ensuring the visibility of pedestrian crossings through better signage, we can prevent near-misses and potentially life-changing accidents in Oyster Bay. These measures are relatively straightforward and cost-effective solutions that can save lives and increase the safety of our community.
