Implement Specialized Training for Police Officers on Domestic Violence Trauma
Implement Specialized Training for Police Officers on Domestic Violence Trauma
The issue
Women stuck in a cycle of violence and coercive control the much needed support and compassion of educated front line officers who understand the complexities of Trauma Bond and Stockholm Syndrome. Without the in depth knowledge of this hideous form of abuse Police will never be able to identify high risk offenders. With new coercive laws commencing in NSW and QLD Police firstly need to identify it otherwise it’s pointless the law even being there.
Unfortunately DV cases have become far too common. When police officers lack the required knowledge and understanding of Domestic Violence (DV) Trauma Bonds and Stockholm Syndrome, they are ill-equipped to provide effective intervention and necessary support. There is an urgent need for specialized training and education for all police officers to identify the signs and symptoms among victims, and to respond accordingly.
Introducing full domestic violence orders against repeat offenders is an essential step to safeguard the victims and their children. If perpetrators aren’t convicted accordingly and held accountable the abuse only escalates.
For the safety and protection of all individuals who are suffering in silence, trapped within these trauma bonds, let’s implore our governing bodies to ensure this critical education, training and law enforcement reform.
