As digital technology becomes increasingly pervasive, societal challenges associated with it are growing exponentially. This petition highlights the need to educate children about the potential dangers of social media, through obligatory classes provided by the Department of Education (DOE). It also calls for licensing social media users to regulate access and increase overall Internet safety. Recent studies indicate that 95% of teens have access to a smartphone, and 45% say they are online almost constantly, making them vulnerable to online harms (Pew Research Center, 2018). A proposed pause in the digitization of schoolwork further emphasizes the importance of limiting excessive digital exposure to children. By educating them about responsible online behavior and by regulating social media use through a licensing system, we can safeguard their physical and mental wellbeing.
