As a devoted BMX rider and resident of Bundaberg, QLD, I find myself facing a serious problem – excessive heat and sun exposure. The delight of riding during daylight hours often transforms into discomfort and danger due to the scorching sun and the searing heat that goes along with it. Sunburn and the threat of heat-related illnesses are constant realities as we push ourselves to continue practicing our beloved sport.

It's clear that our local skatepark needs improvements - specifically, the installation of shade sails. These effective sun barriers would allow us to enjoy riding for longer periods without the fear of dangerous UV radiation or extreme heat, thus making our skatepark safer and more inclusive.

Australia is considered as a country with some of the highest levels of UV radiation in the world, making shade sails not only a convenience but a health necessity. According to Cancer Council Australia, 2 in 3 Australians are diagnosed with skin cancer by age 70, primarily due to exposure to UV radiation.

By adding shade sails to the Bundaberg Skatepark, we would be actively contributing to lowering this number and promoting healthier exercise options.
