Implement safety measures on Deer Valley Road
The Issue
Deer Valley Road has been a hazardous stretch in our community for too long. In just 10 years, from 2008 to 2018, this road, which spans a mere 2.4 miles, has witnessed 144 crashes. Shockingly, 22 of these accidents resulted in injuries, with two more serious incidents occurring recently. This is a grim record that our community cannot continue to ignore.
Our city officials are commendably working towards enhancing safety by incorporating features such as better lighting and clearer signage in some segments of Deer Valley Road. However, there remains a glaring oversight: the intersection of Balfour Road and Deer Valley—a high-traffic area notorious for its congestion and risk—is not yet included in these safety upgrade plans. This critical omission puts drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, and other road users at significant risk each day.
Statistics paint a stark picture: intersections are usually hotspots for traffic accidents, contributing up to 40% of urban crashes according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Ensuring the safety of this intersection is not just necessary—it's urgent. With the right measures, we can drastically reduce these numbers and create a safer environment for everyone.
Practical solutions exist. Installing traffic signals, enhancing road signage, implementing pedestrian crossings, and rumble strips can drastically reduce the likelihood of accidents
This initiative doesn't merely benefit local residents. As a thoroughfare connecting significant parts of Brentwood, enhancing safety measures here ensures the wellbeing of commuters, visitors, and workers frequenting the area.
We call upon city planners and officials to urgently prioritize safety enhancements at the Balfour Road and Deer Valley intersection. Let us not wait for another unfortunate accident to drive us into action.
If you agree that the safety of our community should not be compromised and that immediate attention is warranted, please sign this petition. Together, we can make our roads safer and protect the wellbeing of everyone who uses them. Your support is crucial—be a part of this change.
Please donate to the families affected here, if you can. https://partner.gofundme.com/f/a-community-showing-up-for-stephanie-and-her-family
