Implement Rightward Facing Ambulance Emojis across All Platforms (WEE WOO AMBALAMPS)

The Issue

I am a dedicated student, currently working on a presentation for my advanced higher computing class. It's become apparent how crucial emojis can be in the process of visual learning and understanding, particularly for the autistic students in our class. But we noticed a consistent problem: many emojis, like the ambulance emoji, only face left.

Such an oversight does not take into account the varying needs of users or the importance of directionality in visual language. Implementing emojis that can face both ways would provide a richer and more complete experience for users. National Autistic Society explains how visual aids, including emojis, can support and enhance learning experiences for individuals on the spectrum by helping them understand, communicate, and express their feelings more efficiently (National Autistic Society).

In a world where over 3.2 billion people use smartphones (BusinessofApps, 2021) and emojis are an integral part of our digital communication, it is time we advocate for inclusivity and variability in their design too. This small but impactful change can improve the representation and accessibility of emojis for individuals with varying cognitive processing abilities and learning styles.

The current uniformity of left-facing emojis is restrictive, and reducing this uniformity can lead to a more inclusive digital space. With the support of everyone signing this petition, we can urge major companies to understand this need and make changes accordingly.

Please sign this petition to show support for expanding emoji directions and improving digital inclusivity.
