For the sake of public safety and economic fairness, it’s time to impose restrictions on cross-border private hire. Currently, the licencing fee in Milton Keynes is £270, significantly higher than the fee of only £80 in Wolverhampton. This discrepancy leads to an influx of private hire vehicles from areas of lower fees, exacerbating issues of safety, competition and local revenue deficit in regions like Milton Keynes.

This imbalance not only hampers the growth of local economies but also puts passengers at risk. Different licensing authorities can have varying requirements and procedures to ensure safety standards, which could potentially be compromised when operators choose to license from authorities with less stringent or cheaper procedures.
