As a local resident of the Vanway area, the 12 Westgate bus service greatly impacts my life. Currently, this service runs only twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. And only runs while school is in session, It is the only bus service that runs to our area, turning what should be a simple commute into a tiresome journey. The closest alternative requires us to climb two steep hills or dangerously navigate down Highway 16. It is not just me but many locals who face this daily challenge.

However, the inconvenience is only half the story. The lack of a regular schedule for the 12 Westgate bus service also raises serious safety concerns. The dangerous strolls along Highway 16 put pedestrians at risk daily. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2018 data, there were 6,283 pedestrian deaths, the most since 1990 ("Traffic Safety Facts Annual Report Tables", 2018). This alarming statistic demonstrates the real danger posed to those left with no option but to walk along busy roads.

In our community, we believe that regular, accessible, and safe transportation is a basic right. Regularizing the schedule of the 12 Westgate bus service would show a commitment to bettering the quality of life and security of those in the Vanway area.
