The Issue

For over a year, I've watched in anticipation as Nigerians have enjoyed visa-free travel to Kenya, a gesture of goodwill and partnership that fosters closer ties between our two nations. However, it’s been disheartening to see that the Nigerian government has not reciprocated this measure for Kenyans, who presently have to pay up to 80 USD for a visa to visit Nigeria. This disparity is not only unfair but also goes against the spirit of the African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement, which both Nigeria and Kenya have proudly signed.

It's crucial to recognize the importance of reciprocal arrangements in promoting equality and fostering a sense of unity among African nations. The visa-free agreement Kenya extended to Nigerians is an opportunity for Nigeria to demonstrate its commitment to diplomatic fairness and regional integration. By allowing Kenyans to travel to Nigeria without the burden of visa fees, Nigeria would be taking a significant step toward establishing equitable, two-way travel opportunities within our continent.

The African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement was designed to promote cooperation and eliminate barriers to movement across African borders, encouraging trade, tourism, and cultural exchange. By howslowing Kenyans the same freedom of movement enjoyed by Nigerians, we would be embodying the true essence of this landmark agreement.

A reciprocal visa-free policy would not only strengthen our diplomatic relations but also boost economic activities such as tourism and business exchanges. It would allow Kenyan entrepreneurs, academics, and tourists easier access to Nigeria, thereby fostering innovation and development in both countries.

Now is the time for the Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to take action and eliminate these unnecessary visa fees for Kenyans, ensuring a fair and balanced approach to international relations. We urge the relevant authorities to embrace this opportunity to set a precedent for cooperation and mutual respect within Africa.

Sign this petition to call upon the Nigerian government to right this inequity and establish a visa-free travel agreement with Kenya. Let's take a stand for fairness, unity, and progress. Your support is key to making this vision a reality. Please sign and share this petition today.
