Implement Pricing for Counter-Strike Legacy to Reduce Cheating

The Issue

As a dedicated player with 17 years of experience, the recent changes in my beloved game Counter-Strike have been personally disheartening. Once notable for its seamless gameplay and sportsmanlike community, it now suffers from a surge of cheaters, marring the gaming experience. This has been particularly notable after the game became freely available as Counter-Strike 2.

The impact of the cheating players has been enormous, to the point where the cheaters/smurfs now significantly outnumber the legitimate players. Although the game developers intended to reach a larger audience by making the game free, it has inadvertently provided a safe haven for cheaters to operate with impunity. Introducing a reasonable purchasing fee, such as 30 dollars, could act as a deterrent for those intending to cheat and devalue the gaming experience.

It has been observed throughout the gaming industry that games with an upfront cost tend to have fewer instances of cheating. When players have more at stake, like the money they've invested, the chances of them jeopardizing their account by cheating are considerably less.

We therefore urge the game developers to consider reintroducing a purchase price for Counter-Strike Legacy. This would not only potentially reduce the number of cheaters but also restore the integrity of the game we know and love, and have dedicated years to.
