Implement Policies to Regulate Heating Providers like Switch2

The Issue

I moved into a new property in a development of approximately 500 apartments in 2020. Since moving in, the heating provider, Switch2, has increased our kWh by an astonishing 394% and our daily standing charge by 122%. This has made it unaffordable for us to wash daily or heat our properties.

This is not just about my personal experience but about the experiences of many others who are suffering under similar circumstances. It is unacceptable that companies like Switch2 can operate as commercial entities and evade regulations set by Ofgem that cap energy prices.

In the UK, around 4 million households are in fuel poverty, unable to afford adequate heating (source: National Energy Action). The actions of companies like Switch2 exacerbate this issue and leave vulnerable people at risk.

We urge the government to implement policies ensuring that companies providing essential services such as heating for residents no longer be deemed as commercial entities but fall under Ofgem's cap on energy prices. This will protect consumers from excessive price hikes and ensure affordable access to basic necessities such as heat.

Please sign this petition if you believe everyone should have access to affordable heating.
