Implement Permanent Residential Parking Permits in Delapre and Far Cotton
Implement Permanent Residential Parking Permits in Delapre and Far Cotton
The Issue
I am a resident of Delapre and Far Cotton, witnessing first-hand the distress and disruption caused to locals due to the parking issues associated with organised events at the Abbey grounds. Our neighbourhood becomes a bustling carpark, robbings us of tranquillity, and necessity of parking space.
Events at the Abbey grounds draw massive crowds, and unfortunately, our streets bear the brunt of it, becoming inundated with visitor vehicles. While we understand the cultural importance of these events and support them, we demand a balance that upholds residents' rights and convenience.
Given that the Abbey is visited by thousands of guests every year, and our local council has voiced an ambition to increase those numbers, the problem we face is only projected to worsen. This not only becomes an issue of convenience, but of safety, as unregulated parking could potentially hinder emergency services.
Therefore, we, the residents of Delapre and Far Cotton, demand the institution of a physical permanent parking permit system. We propose that permits should be in place all year round and funded by the proceeds from Abbey's grounds' events, thus ensuring that the benefits of tourism and cultural engagement are evenly distributed.
Let's reclaim our streets; invite the council to listen, acknowledge, and act on our concerns. We need your support to make this possible. Sign our petition today.
