Implement Park Fencing, Cameras, Crossings and Reduce Speed Limits Near Children's Parks

The issue

My name is Nicole, the mother of seven wonderful children. One day in September 2024, my 12-year-old son was struck by a car while riding his bike out of our local park. He escaped without severe injuries, thanks largely to his helmet, but he was left with extensive gravel rash, lacerations from face to feet, and a deep stab wound to the side. Accidents can happen, but as parents, we must do everything in our power to prevent such incidents from occurring.

That's why I am advocating for safety measures in and around children's parks in built-up areas. I am pleading for pedestrian crossings to be implemented on both entry and exit of parks. Making these areas safer for children should be our utmost priority. Additionally, designating these areas as shared zones and enforcing a speed limit of 10-20 km/h would significantly reduce the chances of accidents.

According to Safe Kids Worldwide, road traffic injuries are the leading cause of death among children aged 5-14. Implementing crossings and reduced speed limits around parks will not only protect our children but will also foster a safer community environment for everyone.

Our children's safety comes first. Let's take decisive action to prevent accidents and safeguard our children's future. Please sign this petition to show your support for implementing crossings and reduced speed limits around children's parks.
