Residents of Canonmoor StreetUnited Kingdom
7 Mar 2026

Hello all,

After lengthy discussions, the original gentleman dealing with improving the parking status case was Callum, who has sadly resigned from the job who we had lengthy discussions with both parking enforcement and Polly Andrews. For those who attended the meeting, they will be aware of the discussions held. Just to update those who couldn't attend, Polly Andrews had forgotten she mentioned that the 1-hour parking was for carers; she had also forgotten a lot of other discussion topics held in that meeting referencing bettering parking in Canonmoor Street, as well as discussions on the turning point no longer being used for fire services and being utilised for cars, generating more spaces. After a long, hard fight with the MP's office and asking Jesse Norman to step forward to support us, he failed to show his face, get in touch, or ever pick up the phone to us throughout. However, His caseworkers arranged the past meeting and did minimal liaisoning. Polly Andrews said she would be happy to attend another meeting, but she is taking a break from trying to further any more discussions with the council about improving the council negotiations for better parking here in Canonmoor Street.

Polly Andrews had also mentioned she would help aid in speaking to relevant teams about bettering the parking scheme. However, she spoke to the team, and apparently, emails came back saying she had spoken to them. Her email stated, "Only residents of Cannonmoor Street were allowed parking permits, or those on the street." We found this response to be unclear, especially considering the emphasis on ensuring fairness for everyone, and it appears that the suggestions provided were not addressed.

We decided to give it one last attempt in the fight, so we contacted traffic enforcement again, where we may be able to restart the process.

Polly Andrews is starting at the meeting stage again, which is almost at the beginning stages, as a decision was made and seemed to be fast-tracked by the council due to Callum leaving his job.. Polly Andrews asked us to do it because she is not prepared to arrange it, Polly Andrews is prepared to attend only. A decision was made based on safety issues, this was skipped as letters were being sent out. Caseworkers from Jesse Norman's office stated that the letters again were not clear, and the council was going to redo them in the next steps. This wasn't done, and a decision was made during the switchover from Callum resigning. Upon contacting the department and skipping Polly Andrews, we suggested that we arrange a meeting as she wasn't prepared to do so. Polly Andrews said she had sent questionnaires out, which was adequate, despite feeding back to her about the confusion where residents were confused about her letter as it wasn't clear. She responded she had lots of feedback; meanwhile, the council stats were only a few responses.

However, we are now being told all residents must speak up and help. We are looking for all suggestions to better the system. Whilst in our discussion, we went to great lengths to mention the one-hour slot in Shinwell Road to be lifted and at all times be for residents' parking permit holders only. In the new scheme, carers would be allowed temporary permits. In our meeting Polly Andrews was fixated on carers being allowed to park there but did not see that anyone could walk into town and park in our boxes, which we pay permits for, from the courtyard and football ground. We don't have adequate spaces to park in. In this discussion, we were also given new insights into some single and double yellow  lines possibly being lifted in Canonmoor Street and elsewhere.

We also put forward to the council and Polly Andrews and Jesse Norman's office the idea of making it easier for people who drive multiple cars or work vehicles. It is extremely difficult having only one car permit and one visitor permit. We suggested, "Why can't we have two visitor permits, equaling the same amount as other permits?" For those who have access to different vehicles and are constantly paying parking enforcement fines, it is so unfair, especially when driveways are allowed to park on their own H bar and block their own driveways, and allowed further permits in our spaces, taking spaces away from our limited parking. In this discussion, the parking attendant covering Callum's job is looking into this and raising it with the parking team. It is extremely wrong for those who have access to multiple vehicles not to be allowed a visitor permit, simply because they are driving or have access to multiple vehicles for whatever reason. Polly Andrews and Jesse Norman could not see our point, although the lady who has stepped into Callum's role could and is going to put forward the questions to the relevant department.

However, we are waiting on another discussion regarding this. As well as parking spaces being made available where the bushes are currently being chopped down by the council, as it is currently dead space, we also discussed where we would park should anyone wish to apply for driveways. The parking team could absolutely understand this point, and if they do, the council would have to look at the overall system and make adequate parking for the residents of Canonmoor. Traffic Management is currently looking into lifting the restrictions at 1-7 Canonmoor from double yellow lines to a single yellow line and, wherever feasible, removing double yellow lines, allowing us to park or have more spaces to park.. We are pleading with everyone to check that they have signed the petition, as well as their family members and all visitors or workmen who visit houses on Canonmoor Street. We welcome any additional suggestions or dissenting opinions, along with their justifications. Kindly specify your street and number to ensure proper attribution of your feedback. We are also asking for all suggestions, and for anyone who can write a letter of suggestions to us to discuss at these meetings. We are also asking residents to attend all future meetings.

We cannot make a change if people aren't willing to attend meetings, sign, or speak up.
Please find the link to share the petition below. Kindly note that signing this petition requires attention to the fine print at the conclusion. While no payment is required, sharing is mandatory. Should you not receive a confirmation email, your signature may not have been successfully recorded.

We urgently require letters of support, as Ms. Polly Andrews appears to believe that the current provision of approximately 10 parking spaces for over 30 residences is satisfactory.
