Implement More 4-Way Stop Signs in Passaic and Clifton

Implement More 4-Way Stop Signs in Passaic and Clifton
The Issue
Driving through intersections in Passaic and Clifton is nerve-wracking. I almost got into a crash at a two-way stop when I thought it was safe. Almost too late, I saw a car advancing and stopped in the middle out of fear. Thankfully, the approaching car halted in time. This experience was terrifying, and I believe I am not alone in feeling this way.
Many intersections within these cities lack sufficient stop signs, particularly four-way stops, which are essential in creating a safer environment for both drivers and pedestrians. Too often, motorists are forced to rely on the attentiveness of drivers on other roads to prevent collisions. Many are left to quickly accelerate to cross through safely, a practice that is anything but safe.
Statistics reveal that intersections are hotspots for collisions, accounting for a significant proportion of vehicular accidents nationwide. The Federal Highway Administration states that more than 50% of the combined total of fatal and injury crashes occur at intersections. Introducing more four-way stop signs at multiple intersections, particularly those known to be dangerous, can drastically reduce these numbers and improve safety standards.
Passaic and Clifton have numerous intersections located on hills, busy areas, and with poor visibility, all amplifying the risks present at two-way stops. Van Houten and High Street, Aycrigg and High Street, and Aycrigg and Pennington, are critical points in which a shift to four-way stops would not only reduce collisions but also ease the anxiety faced by everyday drivers.
Let's address this pressing safety issue by encouraging the local governments of Passaic and Clifton to adopt more four-way stop signs. It's a practical, cost-effective solution to enhance traffic safety and protect the lives of our community members. Sign this petition to advocate for safer roads in our neighborhoods.
