Implement Mandatory Staffing Ratios for Nurses and Patient Care Technicians in Florida

The Issue

https://fastdemocracy.com/bill-search/fl/2024/bills/FLB00030212/

As a Registered Nurse (RN) working in Florida, I have personally witnessed the challenges of delivering safe and adequate care to patients due to inadequate staffing. The lack of mandated staffing ratios for nurses and patient care technicians has resulted in increased burnout rates among healthcare professionals, unsafe working conditions, and compromised patient safety.

In 2004, California became the first state to implement mandatory nurse-to-patient ratios. A study published by Health Services Research found that these regulations led to an increase in overall nurse staffing levels and improved patient outcomes (Aiken et al., 2010). Furthermore, research suggests that adequate nurse staffing can reduce hospital readmission rates (McHugh & Ma, 2013).

Florida's population is aging rapidly. By 2030, one out of every five Floridians will be aged 65 or older (Florida Department of Elder Affairs). This demographic shift will place an even greater demand on our healthcare system. We must act now to ensure that our healthcare professionals are not stretched beyond their limits.

By signing this petition, you are advocating for safer working conditions for nurses and patient care technicians while ensuring better quality care for patients across Florida. Your support can make a difference in the lives of both healthcare providers and those they serve daily. Please sign this petition today.
