I am a mother, an aunt, and a cousin to many school-aged children. Now, as a bus driver myself, the necessity for safety measures on our buses is keenly personal and deeply clear. Every day, I witness countless cars recklessly ignoring the stop signs on my bus as I load our precious cargo — the city's children onto the bus. The disregard and danger have become part of my daily routine, forcing me to take pictures of license plates and report these dangerous incidents to the police.

We need change now.

City school buses must hold mandatory camera equipment on all stop signs. This equipment will play a crucial role in providing evidence against the relentless flouting of traffic rules endangering our children's lives. In the United States, as of the year 2018, school transportation-related crashes have taken the lives of 264 school-age children. (Source: National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). This is not a statistic to take lightly, and action should be immediate.

A camera on every school bus stop sign is a simple, yet effective solution. It saves bus drivers, police, and concerned community members time and resources, and, most importantly, protects the lives of the students we are responsible for.
