Implement Mandatory Black Box Devices for New Drivers Instead of Restricting Young Drivers
The Issue
My daughter recently passed her driving test and has a black box monitoring device fitted in her vehicle. This device makes her aware that she needs to abide by the speed limits or face getting her insurance cancelled, making it impossible for her to drive. Since passing her test, having the freedom to drive has significantly improved not only my daughter's work situation but also boosted her mental health and confidence.
It is unfair and unjust to punish all young drivers who follow the rules due to the actions of a few. We should not restrict driving times or limit passengers for new drivers, but instead make it compulsory for all new drivers to have a black box monitoring device fitted in their vehicles. This way, if they break any driving rules such as speeding etc, their insurance would be cancelled.
According to statistics from Brake.org.uk, one in four 18-24 year olds crash within two years of passing their driving test. However, this doesn't mean that every young driver is reckless or irresponsible. There are plenty of new young drivers abiding by the law every day.
Instead of classifying all young drivers as potential hazards on our roads based on age alone - let's implement solutions that encourage responsible behavior like mandatory black box devices which monitor and record data about speed and braking patterns among others.
We must stop painting all young drivers with the same brush; instead we should focus on promoting safe driving habits through effective measures such as these devices which have proven beneficial in my daughter's case.
Let us push for change that encourages responsibility rather than imposing blanket restrictions which unfairly penalize law-abiding young motorists. Please sign this petition today!
