Implement Life Sentence as Minimum Punishment for Convicted Rapists

The Issue

Rape is a deplorable crime, committed for the perpetrators' twisted pleasure and personal gain. Rape is indefensible—a crime against another person that leaves lifelong scars. Therefore, the punishment must match this severe crime. We demand that convicted rapists must face a minimum term of a life sentence.

Based on the data shared by the Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network (RAINN), every 68 seconds a British person is sexually assaulted. Additionally, nine out of every ten victims of rape are female. Despite these disturbing numbers, only five out of every 1000 perpetrators will end up in prison. This discrepancy in the justice system needs to be addressed urgently.

A life sentence will serve as a stern message to potential offenders, deterring them from committing such heinous acts. It will also reassure victims that those who violated their rights will not roam free, thereby giving them some sense of justice and security.

This cause is personal to us, because no person should live in fear of being the next victim of a crime so horrible. No person should have their dignity stripped away by a perpetrator who faces limited consequences for their actions. For these reasons, we call on our representatives to institute a minimum sentence of life in prison for convicted rapists. Please sign this petition, and let your voice contribute to the cause. Together, we can enforce change and protect future generations from this awful crime.
