I am a Bangladeshi citizen who has witnessed firsthand the heartbreaking mistreatment and suffering of innocent animals in my country. Everyday, I see numerous dogs and cats, and other animals being mercilessly tortured and killed. This is the country where we fought for the preservation of life in 1971, but today, it's heartbreaking to see that the same compassion doesn't extend to all living beings.

The issue is not just about the torture and killing of animals but also about their living condition. It's a common sight to see animals being kept and sold in tiny cages, devoid of any basic standards of living. Such practices have resulted in Bangladesh's animal welfare ranking plummeting in the Global Animal Protection Index, where it currently performs poorly.

The solution is to put stringent laws into place that criminalize animal cruelty and hold offenders accountable. There needs to be laws outlawing animal torture, killing, and the practice of selling animals in cramped cages. Affected animals should be extracted from these terrible conditions, rehabilitated, and treated with care and respect.

To create a society where animals are treated justly and humanely, it is urgent for the government of Bangladesh to take action now. Let us send a clear message that animal cruelty and inhumane treatment are unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
