Implement Humane Bee Nest Removal in Municipal Services

The Issue

As someone who deeply understands the importance of honeybees to our ecosystem, it is disheartening to witness their extermination where there are intentions to save them. Honeybees play a crucial role in pollination, contributing significantly to our food supply and biodiversity. However, current practices by the One Service provided by our Municipal Services office often result in unnecessary bee deaths due to lack of humane removal options.

Several town councils have already engaged Nutrinest, a bee conservation company that humanely removes bee nests when discovered. Unfortunately, this option is not included in the standard operating procedures (SOP) for One Service. It appears that we still conform to harmful practices that release toxic chemicals into our environment and cause mass bee deaths.

Honeybees are responsible for pollinating approximately 75% of the fruits, nuts, and vegetables as a support base in our local food web. Their decline could drastically affect our food supply chain and disrupt ecological balance. By adopting humane methods of wild bee nest removal like those used by Nutrinest, we can contribute positively towards environmental sustainability while ensuring public safety.

It's time for us as a community to urge One Service to update their SOPs with sustainable and environmentally friendly options. We need them to take action now - for the bees, for our ecosystem and future generations.

Please sign this petition urging One Service under Municipal Services office to implement humane methods of wild bee nest removal.
