As a woman, I stand before you deeply concerned about my safety and the safety of others in our society. The rise and perseverance of sexual violence is deeply troubling. Ensuring swift and severe punishment for such inhumane acts could serve as a deterrent, and that's why I'm raising this urgent plea. I am calling for the implementation of the death penalty for rapists and for the completion of rape cases within a month. According to a 2019 report from the National Crime Records Bureau, a rape is reported every 15 minutes in India (The Guardian, 2019). The slow pace of judicial processes, however, fails to deliver justice in time, leading many victims to experience further trauma. By stipulating expedited trials completed within a month, we can help limit this prolonged suffering, and by introducing the death penalty, we can send a clear message about our society's stance on sexual violence.
