Implement Crossing Gates at All Hawaiian Railway Society Crossings

Implement Crossing Gates at All Hawaiian Railway Society Crossings
The Issue
As a concerned citizen who values the unique history and culture of Hawaii, I am deeply invested in the safety and preservation of one of its historical treasures - the Hawaiian Railway Society. This society operates one of the few surviving narrow gauge railroads in the state, a significant piece of their heritage that we must protect. However, it has come to my attention that not all grade crossings on this railway have crossing signals with gates.
While these are slow-moving excursion trains, accidents involving trains and motor vehicles can still occur. Moreover, flagging each crossing is not only time-consuming but also poses a significant risk to those tasked with this responsibility.
The crux of this issue lies in the fact that while the Hawaiian Railway Society operates these trains, they do not own the tracks; they belong to the State of Hawaii. This complicates matters as it requires coordination between multiple parties to ensure safety measures are implemented.
By installing crossing signals with gates at all grade crossings along this railway line, we can significantly reduce potential hazards while preserving an important part of Hawaii's history for future generations. I urge you to consider this petition seriously for everyone's safety involved with or around these historic railways.
Please sign this petition urging both The State Of Hawaii and The Hawaiian Railway Society to work together towards implementing crossing signals with gates at all their grade crossings.
