Implement Controlled Stops and Increase Fines in School Zones

The Issue

My son, a 15-year-old student, was hit by a car on a Friday during lunchtime. Despite it being broad daylight with flashing lights and clearly marked speed limits, the driver wasn't paying attention. She sped through the school zone, bypassing other stopped cars and hit my son. Now my child needs surgery, walks with a cane but is thankfully alive. His physical wounds will heal over time but his mental trauma needs more attention.

This incident is not an isolated one in Delhi, Ontario. Several children have been victims of such negligence due to inadequate traffic control measures in school zones and distracted driving habits of motorists.

We urgently need to change the crosswalk lights to controlled stops at all school crossings to ensure the safety of our children. Additionally, we need surveillance cameras installed at these points to monitor traffic violations effectively.

Furthermore, it's high time we address the issue of distracted driving seriously by imposing higher fines for speeding in school zones. According to Transport Canada statistics (2019), speeding remains one of the leading contributing factors in road fatalities across Canada.

Let's make our streets safer for our children! No more families should suffer like ours did due to preventable accidents caused by negligent drivers or inadequate traffic controls.

Please sign this petition demanding that local authorities implement these changes immediately before another child gets hurt or worse - loses their life!
