The Issue

We are constantly teaching girls how to stay safe, but where is the targeted education for boys?

A change is needed.

We are calling on the School Board to implement a vital, comprehensive program for the male students at our schools. Through targeted education that covers consent, emotional intelligence and healthy masculinity, our schools can empower boys to recognize manipulation, challenge sexist language, and actively prevent harmful behaviors. We urge the School Board to urgently adopt a curriculum to guarantee a safer, more respectful, and fully protective environment for every girl and woman.

The proposed educational program would cover but not be limited to:

-Respectful behaviour towards women and girls
-Consent and healthy boundaries
-Empathy and emotional intelligence
-The impact of pornography on perceptions of relationships
-Online misogyny and harmful stereotypes
-Recognizing manipulation and coercion
-Challenging sexist language and behaviour
-The influence of social media and online content
-Building healthy masculinity

Boys must be educated about the fundamental principles of consent and respect towards women and girls. By incorporating these teachings into the school curriculum in a specific program, we lay a foundation for young men to grow into respectful, empathetic adults who understand the importance of healthy boundaries. Education on these topics is not just beneficial but essential, creating a ripple effect that leads to safer communities.

Part of this educational initiative must also tackle the often underestimated role of empathy and emotional intelligence. Boys should be encouraged to develop these skills, allowing them to form meaningful relationships based on mutual respect and understanding. We need to give boys the tools they need to challenge and overcome harmful stereotypes that have historically undermined gender equality.

Another critical area that our schools must address is the impact of pornography on young people's perceptions of relationships. With the access to screens and internet our children have today, we must enlighten students about its distorted representation and how it can influence unrealistic and unhealthy expectations. By openly discussing these issues in a controlled educational setting, we equip our youth with the knowledge to navigate relationships responsibly.

Online misogyny and the spread of harmful stereotypes  pose significant threats. Teaching boys to recognize manipulation, coercion, and the damaging effects of sexist language is crucial. We need to engage them in challenging such behaviours, fostering an environment where respect and equality thrive.

The implementation of this program requires collaboration between educators, parents, policymakers, and experts in psychology and gender studies. With the right resources and commitment, we can pave the way for a better future.

Please sign this petition today to urge our schools to implement this new program. By improving the moral and social education of our boys, we will be ultimately protect and promote the well-being of all children. Together, we can make a lasting change.
