This petition is deeply personal. Each day, many seniors, like myself, grapple with the issue of incontinence. Prominent health organizations such as the Urology Care Foundation estimate that up to a third of men and women aged 60 and over experience urinary incontinence to some degree. So, the need for accessible and open bathrooms around the clock is real and immediate. However, the current policy of locking bathrooms in the evenings and during weekends robs us of our dignity and comfort. Having to rush back to our apartments, often far, is undignified and potentially hazardous. Through this petition, we ask for an immediate change in policy to ensure that bathrooms remain open during the evenings and weekends. This is not an unreasonable demand, but a basic right for all, not just seniors. Leaving bathrooms locked only infringes on the quality of life for many and imposes unnecessary distress.
