On February 28, 2023, my twin sons and I faced an unexpected upheaval. Their mother, while returning from the bus stop with her oldest son, was struck by a motorcycle. She survived but suffered a traumatic brain injury that has kept her out of parenting ever since. Since that day, I've been a single father to our twin sons, a journey full of challenges and limited support.

In Alabama, and across the United States, many single fathers navigate the complexities of parenthood without sufficient support to meet their unique needs. The struggle to provide a nurturing environment becomes even more arduous in the absence of resources specifically designed for us. The existing support structure largely caters to single mothers, inadvertently leaving single fathers underrepresented and underserved.

This petition seeks the establishment and enhancement of support services tailored for single fathers. These services could include access to mental health counseling, caregiver training, economic assistance and legal aid, to name a few.
