Implement Comprehensive Safety Precautions at Glyndon Elementary School

The Issue

The first-hand experiences of my children have demonstrated a serious lapse in student safety at Glyndon Elementary School, part of Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS). My son, a student with a developmental delay and Achondroplasia Dwarfism was assaulted by a fifth-grade male student and stabbed with a pencil. This child has also verbally harassed both my son and daughter on different occasions, and even physically attacked another female student with a chair and punches. A third-grade male student, also known for his violent outbursts, sent another student to the hospital in a fit of rage and caused a class full of students to have to urgently evacuate the class for their safety. Despite the seriousness of the incident that occurred, the administrators—Tracy M. Robinson (Principal) and Shelbi A. Timmons (Vice Principal)—have yet to notify the parents of the students who were present in the classroom or affected by the violent and disruptive behavior. This lack of communication reflects a concerning failure in transparency and accountability. School administrators have a duty to promptly inform families of any incidents that may compromise the safety and well-being of students. In this case, that responsibility was not upheld. Glyndon Elementary School, part of Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS) must ensure that trained staff are in place to help deescalate these sorts of unsafe violent outburst and to ensure the safety of all our children.
These incidents demonstrate a systemic issue with violence in this school, perpetrated by students who are not being adequately disciplined or removed from an environment where they can continue to harm others. These heinous acts are traumatizing our children and making their place of learning a frightening space. It is vital to ensure all students are protected from such ruthless behavior and are aided in getting past their traumatic experiences.

The time to act is now. BCPS must implement comprehensive safety measures to protect all students. For petrified parents, concerned community members, and above all, every child who steps foot into these schools, a significant change is needed.

We urge BCPS, and specifically Glyndon Elementary, to prioritize student safety by developing a strict, clear, and enforceable safety plan. This plan must be proactive in handling violent incidents, including offering adequate help for the victims and effective consequences for offenders. Please sign this petition to urge BCPS to prioritize the safety and security of all our children. Your signature will be a step towards protecting our children's right to learn without fear.
