Implement Broader Meat Selections in Supermarkets and Fast Food Chains

Implement Broader Meat Selections in Supermarkets and Fast Food Chains
The Issue
As someone deeply concerned with dietary choices, I've noticed the prevalence of halal meat in our local supermarkets and fast food outlets. While acknowledging the role it plays for a significant portion of our society, I stress the importance of catering to all preferences, religions, and ethical standpoints when it comes to food.
Halal refers to what's permissible in traditional Islamic law. Slaughter in the Halal method involves cutting through the large arteries in the neck along with the windpipe with one swift, uninterrupted cut. However, people from other religions and atheists may prefer different methods if they are concerned about animal welfare or wish to adhere to their religious laws.
About 84% of the world population are religious, and these religions have diverse slaughtering practices. For example, Judaism demands Shechita, which has its specific slaughtering rules different from Halal (Pew Research Center, 2021), while others may prefer stunned slaughter for animal welfare reasons.
Therefore, I propose that supermarkets and fast food restaurants broaden their meat selections to include non-halal options. Providing a variety of meat choices will recognize and respect the diversity of our society, catering not only to different religious dietary requirements but also to personal preferences and beliefs.
Taking such a step would reflect our community's diversity and ensure that all customers have the choice to align their food with their values.
Please support this petition and stimulate change by advocating for broader meat selections in our supermarkets and fast food chains. Sign this petition if you believe in choice and respect for all dietary needs and ethical standpoints.
