According to a study from Scientific Reports, the Garbage Patch covers 1.6 million square kilometers, an area twice the size of Texas or three times the size of France. Scientists estimate that it contains 1.8 trillion pieces of plastic, weighing about 80,000 metric tons.

How long more can we tolerate our actions causing such turmoil in marine biodiversity? How many more species have to suffer before we act?
