The Issue

Did you know that 1 to 5 in 100 pregnancies end in the second trimester?
Did you know that 1 in 160 pregnancies end in stillbirth?

But grieving parents are not just numbers. They are people that have lost their precious babies.

The loss of a precious baby is an incredibly difficult experience. During this time, families need a private, comfortable space to grieve, make the only memories they will ever get to make with their babies and say their goodbyes. Unfortunately, not all hospitals provide bereavement suites - dedicated spaces that have been “de-hospitalized” for families to spend time with their babies. This lack of provision adds unnecessary stress and discomfort during an already excruciatingly painful experience. We believe that each hospital should have these rooms that also include a cuddle cot; a specially designed cooling bassinet that keeps babies from deteriorating and allowing the baby to stay in the room instead of being brought back and forth. The cots truly give the gift of time.

According to the National Health Service (NHS) in the UK, bereavement suites have proven beneficial for grieving families by providing them with a peaceful environment during their final moments with the deceased (source: NHS). Additionally, research conducted by the American Journal of Hospice & Palliative Medicine indicates that such facilities can significantly improve overall patient satisfaction rates (source: American Journal of Hospice & Palliative Medicine).

Therefore, we urge healthcare authorities and hospital administrators around the world to make bereavement suites a standard part of hospital care. By doing so, they will be acknowledging grief as part of the healing process and ensuring that every family has access to these essential services during their time of need.

Please sign this petition to call on healthcare providers worldwide to implement bereavement suites in all hospitals as standard care.
