As a California resident, I've personally experienced the benefits of transitioning from a physical wallet to a digital one. Instead of lugging around a bulky wallet and a bunch of keys, I now only have to keep track of my phone. The convenience and security of this cannot be overstated. It's time we bring this experience to identification as well.

An Apple Digital ID, a feature of iOS, allows individuals to carry a digital version of their driver’s license or state IDs on their iPhone or Apple Watch. Already approved in several US states, this digital form of identification is recognized by the TSA at select airport security checkpoints (source: Apple Newsroom). 

Having a digital ID not only reduces the number of items we need to carry, but it has the potential to make identification more secure. With features like Face ID and Touch ID for verification, it can significantly reduce the risks of ID theft, a crime impacting an estimated 33% of US adults (source: Bureau of Justice Statistics).

California, known for its technological innovation, should be leading the change. By adopting the Apple Digital ID, we can make identification more convenient and secure for all residents. Using this technology, we can set an example for other states and demonstrate how digital solutions can transform our daily lives for the better.
