You have generated interest in dangerous speeding in our area with signing the petition! Thank you.
Birmingham Mail wrote an article appearing in their online edition "Birmingham Live" about the serious crash on Reddings Road on 7th May which you can read here : https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/moseley-neighbours-fear-childrens-lives-24306704
Residents of other areas are also starting their own petitions. Hopefully this will apply pressure to Birmingham City Council to modify their current reactive process of requiring a threshold of "9 injury collisions in a period of 3 years, although locations with lower numbers are considered if there are a high percentage of collisions classified as serious or involving vulnerable road users such as pedestrians and cyclists."
With cars reaching speeds of 80mph and frequently over 40mph, the next collision with a pedestrian or cyclist is almost certainly going to be fatal. The council's threshold relies on a high frequency of collisions, and doesn't take account of the likely severity. It is also reactive and with the overwhelming amount of evidence to show that Reddings Road and other similar roads being used by cars travelling at excessive speeds, it seems inconsiderate at best to not attempt to prevent a death by implementing traffic calming measures.
I hope that your signature on this petition and potentially others, will change Birmingham City Council to implementing road safety measures in a more proactive way.
