Implement and Enforce a Drug-Free Wing in HMP Winchester for Inmates Seeking Sobriety

The Issue

If you are here reading this please sign, I don’t want donations just signatures if you agree that Winchester Prison should have a wing free of illicit substances offering proper addiction intervention .If everyone who view this signs it will help a great deal. Thank you.

My loved one, an inmate at HMP Winchester, is striving to maintain his sobriety in a challenging environment where illicit substances are readily available. Despite our successful campaign to make Buvidal (an opiate blocker injection) accessible through prison healthcare, the prison authorities have decided it is safe and appropriate to house him with a known and active drug user. This situation not only undermines his efforts but also poses serious risks to his health and rehabilitation.

He is just one of many whose safety and health is compromised by being put in a cell with a drug user and by the availability of illicit drugs in the secure establishment. The prison has chosen to put him at risk of exposure to unwanted spice intoxication by ignoring his efforts to overcome his drug addiction (Substance Use Disorder DSM-5).

We urge the management of HMP Winchester to establish a clean and sober wing for inmates who wish to remain abstinent. This initiative would provide them with the supportive environment they need during their recovery journey.

Furthermore, we call for Cell Safety Risk Assessments to take into account an inmate's motivation to stay drug-free. Housing those seeking sobriety with active users contradicts basic principles of risk management and jeopardizes their progress.

Lastly, we demand improved security measures within the facility to prevent drugs from entering its premises. According to HM Inspectorate of Prisons (2019), 63% of prisoners reported that it was easy or very easy to get drugs in prisons - this statistic must change.

By supporting this petition, you're advocating for better conditions that respect inmates' choices towards sobriety and contribute positively towards their rehabilitation process. Please sign this petition today!
