The Issue

Ontario County, nestled in the heart of New York State, has recently witnessed an alarming rise in cases of animal abuse and neglect. Each of these acts of cruelty strikes at the heart of our community, violating not only the rights of these innocent creatures but also our shared sense of compassion and justice.

In response to similar challenges, Livingston County has successfully implemented an animal abuse registry. This registry serves as a valuable tool in both deterring potential abusers and safeguarding at-risk animals. By documenting individuals with a history of animal abuse, the registry prevents these offenders from owning or purchasing animals in the future, significantly reducing the risk of recurrent abuse.

The establishment of such a registry in Ontario County would signal our commitment to the welfare of animals and our zero-tolerance stance on abuse. It would create a safer environment not only for animals but also foster a culture of responsibility and awareness among pet owners and the general public. Moreover, it is a proactive step towards ensuring those who are found guilty of such heinous acts face substantial consequences that deter future offenses.

Numerous studies have demonstrated a disturbing link between animal cruelty and more egregious forms of violence, including domestic violence and other violent crimes. By tackling animal abuse head-on, Ontario County can not only protect its most vulnerable inhabitants but also contribute to the broader safety and well-being of the community as a whole.

We ask Ontario County officials to take immediate action by drafting legislation to establish and maintain an animal abuse registry. This registry would ensure that individuals convicted of animal cruelty are permanently barred from owning animals again. It is vital for the safety and protection of animals and the moral fabric of our community.

Please join us in advocating for this crucial change. Your signature on this petition sends a strong message to local lawmakers that the citizens of Ontario County demand justice and protection for all animals. Sign today and be a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
