As a resident of Jacksonville, FL, I have personally paid over $30,000.00 in car insurance over the past five years. This is an amount I have not been able to save despite my best efforts. The high cost of car insurance has become a burden too heavy to bear for many Floridians like myself.

The current system allows private corporations to dictate prices that often seem arbitrary and unfair. What's more disconcerting is that if we choose not to pay these exorbitant fees, the state government will suspend our driver licenses. This leaves us with no choice but to comply with what feels like an unjust system.

It's time we advocate for change and demand fairness in our car insurance rates. Our driving history/record should be the only determining factor for pricing our car insurance - not where we live or what kind of vehicle we drive.

According to data from The Zebra (2020), Florida ranks as the third most expensive state in America for auto insurance premiums. This is unacceptable and must change.

We call on lawmakers and regulators in Florida to implement a set rate for car insurance that applies equally across all drivers based on their driving record alone, bringing much-needed relief and fairness into this essential service sector.
