As a very concerned mother and member of the Parkdale community, I have witnessed the dangers that our children face every day while crossing the Brisbane Terrace Road to get to school. The morning drop off and afternoon rush hour pick up times are particularly hazardous for our little ones. With cars speeding down this one-way road, illegal parking and general overcrowding, it is only a matter of time before an accident occurs - An incident that could be devastating for our tight-knit school community. Tragically and recently we have seen a fatality at a local primary school in our local suburbs, let's avoid a similar scenario and accelerate change!

It is essential to note that in Australia, pedestrian casualties account for 14% of all road traffic deaths (source: Australian Bureau of Statistics). This statistic is not just a number; it represents real lives at risk—our children's lives.

The implementation of a school crossing guard and speed humps can significantly reduce these risks. They will ensure safe passage for our children during these busy periods and provide peace of mind for parents and family members alike.

For the safety and wellbeing of our children, we urge local authorities to take immediate action by deploying a dedicated school crossing guard outside our school. Alongside road humps and penalties for no stopping areas.
