Our plea is born out of a personal struggle, shared by countless others. Each week, 21 fathers tragically take their own lives, a horrifying number exacerbated by the challenging custodial court system. It's a harsh reality that interference orders (IVOs) can be utilised as a tactic to restrict fathers from seeing their children. As things stand, women, without the requirement of presenting concrete evidence, can attain an IVO against fathers.

While we are wholly committed to and stand firm for the safety of mothers and children, we find ourselves questioning, "Where is the justice for fathers?" This imbalance is not meant to undermine the importance of protective orders in genuine instances, but it brings to light the need for a more robust verification process.

We call upon our lawmakers and the judiciary to introduce such checks and measures that ensure the rightful issuance of intervention orders, making sure they serve their original purpose without being misused. A fair system which scrutinises all aspects will not only maintain the sanctity of parental rights but also save many fathers from unwarranted suffering and even self-harm.
