In our busy village, the safety of our children is paramount. Every day, children and families need to navigate a bustling and ever increasing dangerous road (Brookhill Road, Copthorne) to get to and from school. The absence of a crossing person on such a road, unfortunately, presents a very significant danger to their safety. According to the Transportation Research Board, "children aged 5-9 are generally at the greatest risk of being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street." We have already witnessed too many near misses involving many people  of different ages!  The lollipop man  we had (Bob) went off sick in autumn of 2024  and hasn’t been replaced since. Providing a crossing person not only ensures their safety, it sends a positive message to the children and families that their lives matter. Please join us in petitioning our local authority to prioritise our children's safety by implementing a road safety crossing person before and after school on Brookhill road in Copthorne.
